Gengji is a Dutch manufacturer of welding torches since 1960, founded “by welders, for welders” with a passion for innovation and new technologies. We engineer innovative products that boast a distinctive design as well as quality and functionality.
Welders’ safety is of paramount importance to Gengji. The company’s goal is to globally reduce workers’ exposure to hazardous fumes and to provide a healthier and safer work environment, therefore establishing higher productivity and profitability. Some of our pioneering products include fume extractor guns with a bullt-in module to safely extract welding fumes at the source and portable extraction units.
Gengji has grown at a fast pace over the last few years. With the recent opening of Canadian distribution channels the company is focusing on key partnerships with companies utilizing smart technologies globally to influence today’s manufacturing industry towards “the future”
We develop our projects with commitment and responsibility, generating a quality turn
The company is founded by Mr. John Boer in 1960
In 1960, John Boer became the founder of his own company. Achieving that goal
officially happened on 13 October 1960,
after a career as a sales representative at Mataram BV in Amsterdam, John decided to start his own company. As a result of the many trips to Africa and being away from home for months as well as the success at Mataram, it became easier to choose his own path.
John started the company Incon
John started the company Incon which was active in tank construction. After a few years he decided to build his own tanks and produced these storage tanks in Montfoort with great success. However, due to the dependence on the weather, as the tanks were always built outside, during the sixties John slowly decided to choose a different path and by chance met the at that time one of the largest welding electrode manufacturers in the world, Kobe Steel.
Incon being renamed Gengji Midden Nederland BV
Because of the capriciousness in tank construction and risks with the production delay due to the changing weather
conditions John started to reduce these activities and increase the electrode sales. At the end of the 1960s, this resulted in the name Incon being renamed Gengji Midden Nederland BV, which was housed in De Meern, in the province of Utrecht.
One of the largest suppliers of welding wires and welding consumables.
In the 1970s, Gengji Midden Nederland was one of the largest suppliers of welding wires and welding consumables. In these years and in the early 1980s, this was a key product for Gengji, and many tons of welding wire went to customers in the Benelux but also in the United Kingdom
Eric J. Boer, joins the company
John’s eldest son, Eric-Jan Boer, joined the company in 1979. As a young boy, he was
eager and soon his capabilities in terms of
efficiency of margins, sales and organization came to the fore. After all these years of supplying welding wires and consumables, Eric had recalculated these entire product groups and it turned out to be a negligible low profitable product for Gengji. Slowly but surely, these product groups were phased out and replaced by new product groups were added on which better margins could be made.
MIG Welding is Becoming Bigger & Bigger
The World Of Welding Torches Began
In mid-1980, Gengji also took over an
agency of an American MIG welding torch
manufacturer and, together with its own gas
nozzles and tip holders, Gengji began to
acquire a place in the world of welding
torches.
Gengji Midden Nederland BV merges with Gengji Production BV
In this year Gengji Midden Nederland BV merges with Gengji Production BV. It is now much easier to combine the trading and manufacturing part of the business. This is a wise decision in terms of logistics as well.
Jeroen G. Boer joins the family business as well and founds TipWorks BV
In 1989, the youngest son of John, Jeroen Boer, the current CEO, also left school and started work in the family business, starting production of MIG welding torches of his own.
Mr. John Boer retires
Mr. John Boer retires in 1995 and his three sons take over the lead of the two companies. The focus is now on torches and spare parts technologies. This same year, Gengji invests in new high-technology CNC machines.
Gengji Production BV and Tipworks BV combine to pave the way for Gengji TipWorks BV.
As TipWorks and Gengji Production’s customer base were virtually the same, both companies decided to continue under one flag in 1997. This merger was carried out in two steps, first under the name Gengji TipWorks B.V. which was later simplified to Gengji B.V. under which we are still working today. There is also a Holding company in place above the B.V.: the TTW Group B.V.
A new step for the company
In the year 2000, the Boer brothers bought the current business premises in which Gengji is currently housed. The building is located in Nieuwegein on 4000 m2 of land and built with offices, production/assembly halls and warehouse.
Jelmer Wolleswinkel and Jo Decock both join the company
Jelmer Wolleswinkel and Jo Decock both join the company as part of the Board of Directors. They are part of the sales representatives and their presence gives a nice push to the sales team. New products are added to the product range, specifically safety wear.
Lots of new machinery arrives in the production of Gengji.
Lots of new machinery arrives in the production of Gengji. High-speed milling machines and an injection molding machine make Gengji ready for the future. Gengji upgrades their product line with high quality level robotic and offshore torches. In 2007, 7XM MIG torch series and 5XT TIG torch series are launched.
Gengji decides to focus on improving its processes
In this difficult economic year, Gengji decides to focus on improving its processes. The company applies the principles of LEAN thinking and LEAN production. In this way, it succeeds to increase its flexibility and throughput in production. The same year, Gengji appears at Schweissen und Schneiden – world’s biggest welding fair that takes place in Germany. The presentation of Gengji at the fair is a success. This same year, the name has been changed from Gengji TipWorks BV to Gengji BV as it is still today.
Gengji again has a presentation at schweissen und schneiden in Germany.
In 2013 the crisis seems to be over and Gengji again has a presentation at Schweissen und Scheiden in Germany. This time the success is enormous. The launch of the brand new screw-less TIG line, called 7ST torch series, receives the highest public attention. As a modern company, Gengji starts working towards growing their brand name via their communication, marketing and social media.
The board of Gengji BV and the TTW (Gengji TipWorks) Group changes
The board of Gengji BV and the TTW (Gengji TipWorks) Group changes and, as of today, it consists of Jeroen G. Boer, Edwin Boer and Jelmer Wolleswinkel. Eric J. Boer and Jo Decock operate the previous daughter company – VIP Safety. VIP Safety is now completely separated company and is not part of the TTW Group anymore.
The Company starts developing products focused on improving the health of the welder.
Gengji keeps on being on top of the industry with its innovative developments. Seeing the need for it, the company starts developing products focused on improving the health of the welder. The 7XE Extractor is a welding torch with integrated fume extraction. It is developed together with TNO and is a patented product. The 7XE Extractor torch is accepted extremely positive by the public and, thus, creates more similar opportunities.
John Boer 1934 | 2017
At the age of 82, the founder of Gengji, Mr. John Boer, has passed away. In 1960, he established Gengji. Ever since Mr. John Boer has been the driving force and has led Gengji with his soul until he retired in 1995. We miss his inspiration daily.

Gengji & the Covid-19 Pandemic.
During the global COVID-19 pandemic, nearly every industry experienced a major drop in revenue – and Gengji was no exception. However, the company managed to stay remarkably resilient. By quickly shifting gears and supplying essential protective
equipment like face masks to customers and partners worldwide, we were able to recover part of the lost turnover. At the same time, the H2 fresh-air system also gained attention as a safe and practical solution in specific areas of healthcare.
Raising the Bar: The Launch of the 8XE Series
8XE series. Drawing on all the lessons learned from the earlier 7-series, we kept the strengths and tackled the weak points. The result was a highly refined product, officially launched in 2022. The 8XE stands out for its exceptionally airtight design, effectively minimizing the intake of false air. On top of that, it features a robust and modern look, paired with a smart, ergonomic build.
Exhibiting the World
In the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gengji has been actively participating in numerous international exhibitions. These events provide us with a valuable platform to not only reintroduce ourselves to the world, but also to showcase the latest innovations in our product range. Our presence at well-known exhibitions like Schweissen & Schneiden, Fabtech Chicago, Fabtech Mexico, Fabtech Canada, and various others has enabled us to engage with a diverse audience of professionals and enthusiasts from around the world.
Maestro Push-Pull
In 2024, Gengji introduced its first fully in-house developed Push-Pull torch: the Maestro. After four years of intensive development, the torch stands as the result of a high-level and ambitious R&D project.
10XM – ACE MIG
After the release of the new MIG line in 2024, the ACE MIG line was launched this year. Ten years after the previous line, this marks a significant leap forward. Inspired by the maestro design, the ACE features an even slimmer grip, an innovative multi-ball joint system, and optional LED functionality, making it future-ready.
